08/06/04 - Aggresive behaviour at Leeds Point.
This story comes from a friend who was with three others at the time of the following incident. They had gone out late one August night in search of the infamous 'Jersey Devil house foundation'. As they arrived in the house's vicinity that muggy evening, crickets chirped and the jungle-like forest of SE New Jersey awaited them. The driver put the car in park and shut off the engine. As people were opening their doors to exit the vehicle, the rear end begin to lift off the ground. Puzzled, everyone remained in the car as the rear end lifted up even further and shook from side to side in an aggressive manner. Panicked, the driver started up the engine and at that point the car slammed hard onto the ground. The passengers looked behind but could see no-one, at least not above the trunk's elevation. They sped off in the car at a high speed as everyone heard a rediculously loud, gut-wrenching, ear piercing scream that they would dream about for some time. No person in that group has ever returned to the location.
In this particular case, no-one claimed to have seen any type of creature at all. However, there are 3 direct associations that this may have with the Jersey Devil. The first is the fact that the incident took place at Leeds Point at the site of the Shourd's House, supposed birthplace of the Jersey Devil. Secondly, whatever was in that forest on this particular night emitted a high pitched scream which is obviously the signature behaviour of the Jersey Devil. Lastly, is the fact that that the back end of the vehicle was actually lifted from the ground and shaken. Sounds unlikely at first glance, except one can't help but relate it to the incident in 1927 outside of Salem where a taxi driver's car was "shaken violently" by a creature which flew off into the night.
