Feral and Devil Dogs-

As for feral dogs, they were first noted to exist in the mid-1800's as probable descendants of the dogs brought by colonists and Hessian soldiers. They are somewhat of a threat to backwoods hikers in that the park service doesn't talk about them either; but residents do, and they are blamed for a great deal of mischief in these woods. Traps are set for them by rangers, but they've learned to avoid them.

Now for Devil dogs.  To those not in the know, Devil dogs are thought to be ghostlike creatures.  Nearly always reported black, they terrorize and often proceed to vanish into the night.

Pros – Dogs have a quick speed and may account for “figures in the forest”.  They may stand on their back feet for a period of time.  Wild dogs do devour small animals on a constant basis.  Devil dogs in particular, may have the feature of glowing eyes.

Cons – This theory holds little water in the same way that many of the theories and mix-ups fall short, in that the appearance is very dissimilar to fit with the common Jersey Devil sighting.  It is very unlikely that any type of dog (be them ghostly or not), could account for all Devil sightings.
